ICSC, Cuncolim Union to fight for top spot

MARGAO: Clapson Carvalho stole the limelight as he struck thrice to help Immaculate Conception Sports Club (ICSC), Paroda to demolish St Sebastian Sports Club, Aquem 3-0 and enter the final of GFA Third Division play-off, at Government school play ground, Cuncolim, on Saturday. MARGAO: Clapson Carvalho stole the limelight as he struck thrice to help Immaculate Conception Sports Club (ICSC), Paroda to demolish St Sebastian Sports Club, Aquem 3-0 and enter the final of GFA Third Division play-off, at Government school play ground, Cuncolim, on Saturday. Immaculate Conception Sports Club led 1-0 at half time.
Both the teams displayed attacking brand of soccer. As the match progressed, Immaculate Conception Sports Club took control and fired couple of pot shots against the rival goal. Persistent forays paid off dividends when Clapson slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot.
Post resumption, Immaculate Conception Sports Club continued to enjoy the better share of exchanges and pushed their opponents on the back-foot. Clapson doubled the lead in the 88th minute when he punished the rival defence with a clinical finish. Clapson registered his hat-trick in the injury time to troop out worthy winners.
In other semi-final, Cuncolim Union are on a roll as they crushed Nuvem Sports Club 6-2 at 3MTR ground, Navelim. Cuncolim Union led 4-0 at the breather. The high light of the day was brilliant hat trick by striker Daulat Dessai.
Cuncolim Union dominated the entire proceedings and never allowed their opponents to settle down. They opened the scoring in the 25th minute when Daulat punted the ball to the far corner of the net.
Spurred by the early success, Cuncolim Union intensified their attacks and doubled the lead in the 30th minute when he bulge the net.
In the 39th minute, Daulat completed his hat-trick. Earlier, Cliffton Fernandes made it 3-0.
The second half did not bring any relief to the Nuvem Sports Club as their opponents attacked from both the flanks. Rosario Carvalho inflated the tally in the 88th minute. Down by five goals, Nuvem Sports Club came their own and struck twice through Joaquim Coutinho and Ryan Alvares in the 88th and 89th minute respectively.
Rosario Carvalho rounded off the tally late in the injury time to register his brace. Cuncolim Union will meet Immaculate Conception Sports Club in the final.
