India created history in the AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup by defeating Lebanon 4-0 to reach the quarterfinals for the first time. The victory has also put them one win away from qualifying for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Pritika Barman starred with a brace (7’, 85’), while Alva Devi Senjam (36’) and Joya (72’) also found the net in a dominant display at the Suzhou Taihu Football Sports Centre. India’s qualification was later confirmed after results in Group C went in their favour, allowing them to progress as one of the best third-placed teams.

Under coach Pamela Conti, India had earlier lost 2-0 to Australia and 3-0 to Japan but finished with three points from the group stage. They will now face China in the quarterfinal on May 11.
India took control early against Lebanon, with Pritika opening the scoring in the 7th minute. Alva doubled the lead before halftime, and Joya added a brilliant third goal in the second half. Pritika then completed her brace to seal a commanding win.
The top four teams from the tournament will qualify for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco later this year.
