MARGAO: A first half strike by Joseph Dias helped Navelim Villagers Union pip Cuncolim Union 1-0 to romp into the final of all-Goa Fr Gervasio Pinto memorial inter-village football tournament, organized by Guardian Angel Sports Club, Curchorem, at Figureido ground, Pontemol, Curchorem, on Saturday.
In an evenly posed battle, the teams adopted aggressive approach and created openings in the initial period of the game but yielded no result.
The lone goal of the match came in the 16th minute when Avelon Gomes floated the flag-kick inside the rival penalty area, Joseph Dias nicely headed home.
Crossing over, Cuncolim Union put up an improved display and their forwards showed better application and launched barrage of attack either their forwards shot wide or straight into the safe hands of rival goalkeeper
At the other end, Navelim Villagers had couple of scoring chances but their forwards were after reaching the rival danger zone.
