NAVELIM: A triple strike by midfielder Joybert Almeida helped FC Goa rout Churchill Brothers Sports Club 5-1 in the AIFF’S U-18 Youth league, at Rosary ground, Navelim on Friday.
FC Goa dominated the game right from the word go and pushed their opponents on the backfoot.
FC Goa broke the deadlock in the 10th minute when Joybert Almeida scored off through pass by Rayan Roger Fernandes.
Spurred by the lead, FC Goa upped the ante and in the 30th minute Joybert Almeida struck second time to register his brace off Doyal Alves’ assist.
At the other end, Churchill Brothers had couple of scoring chances but their forwards ran out ideas after reaching the danger zone.
Midfielder Ashfin Pinto put the issue beyond doubt in the injury time.
Crossing over, FC Goa continued to enjoy the share of exchanges and restricted their opponents to their own half as Sweeden Fernandes inflated their tally in the 46th minute.
Down by 0-4, Churchill Brothers showed some urgency and Denson Fernandes scored a consolation goal.
Unfazed, FC Goa went into attacking mode and in the 75th minute, Joybert Almeida drove the last nail into rival coffin and registered his hat-trick.
