Kerala stormed into the pre-quarterfinals of Santosh Trophy with a thumping 5-2 victory over Assam in their last group league encounter at Salt Lake Stadium here on Monday.
Javed carried his great form and opened the account for Kerala in the 19th minute. Assam retaliated and levelled terms through Akum Ao three minutes later.
Kerala after conceding the equaliser combined themselves brilliantly and went ahead once again with Justin Stephen finding the target three minutes before the break.
After the breather, Kerala pumped in three more goals to dash Assam hopes to move into the pre-quarters.
Sakeer MP made it 3-1 in the 69th minute, while Bijesh Ben scored the fourth goal in the 81st minute before Jelendra Brahma the deficit in the 86th minute. Subair KP then put the final nail in Assam’s coffin.
Mizoram edged past Railways by a solitary goal to book their place in the pre-quarterfinals.
In an inconsequential match, Uttarakhand defeated Himachal Pradesh 4-0.
Orissa ended their campaign on a winning note trouncing Bihar 3-0.
