FATORDA: Mae Dos Pobres, High School, Nuvem blanked Marina English High School, Verna 2-0 in the Subroto Mukherjee Cup U-17 football tournament, held at Astro turf ground, Fatorda, on Monday .
Mae Dos Pobres dominated the match and had the first shot at the rival goal when Rollan Noronha on receiving a pass from Nizamuddin Pathan dribbled past Marina defender Antush Moniz and Britto Pereira and shot at the goal, which was brilliantly saved by the keeper.
Nuvem’s Kamlesh Naik shot from distance missed the target by whiskers.
This could have been the best scoring chance for Nuvem but Gleson Fernandes header was saved by Verna keeper.
Mae Dos Pobres High School, Nuvem tried their best to score but failed to convert their chances in the first half.
Mae Dos Pobres Nuvem changed the script of the match in the second half. The Nuvem scored two goals which came from the boots of Seldom Pereira in the 37th minute and Zenididan Colaco in the 55th minute. As the match progressed Mae Dos Pobres should have scored the third in the 59th minute but Rollan Noronha’s header was saved on the goalline by Alvito Fernandes.
In another match, Our Lady of Health High School, Cuncolim blanked Bhatikar Model English High School, Margao 4-0.
Our Lady of Health, Cuncolim netted through Trian D’Costa, Ronald Simoes, Dylan Fernandes and Ashwin D’Souza.
In another match Bethany Convent High School, Sao Jose de Areal got the better of Infant Jesus High School, Cuncolim 2-1. Stalen Oliveira and Valancio D’Costa netted for Bethany Convent while Ravi Gurkha scored for Infant Jesus.
