PANJIM: In a thrilling encounter, Maina Curtorim got the better of fighting F.C. Siolim 2-0 in the inaugural match of 8th London Trophy organised by Goa Velha Sports Club, at Goa Velha ground, on Wednesday.
There was no score at the break.
FC Siolim started brightly and made the first move in the goal with Mukund from the left moving past Maina Curtorim defence and giving a through pass to Pushparaj but the latter missed the flight.
FC Siolim’s second attempt also failed when Stephen from the left took a 30-yard free-kick but was unlucky to see his shot strike the Curtorim goal upright and go out of play.
The attack then shifted to the Siolim backline when Sertorio after dribbling past Siolim keeper Salil failed to tap in an empty goal. Savio was also unsuccessful as his chip from the top of Siolim box just sailed over cross bar.
On resumption, the Curtorim boys were all over the Siolim defence. Casmiro Fernandes latched on to a Pitu’s pass and shot past Salil straight into the Siolim goal.
Immediately, Siolim goal witnessed attacks from Maina Curtorim’s Sertorio, Pitu, and Welson, who took turns in aiming the goal, but Salil collected well.
At the other end, Stephen had a solo run down the middle of Curtorim defence but before he could do any damage, he was disposed by Bruno.
Vicky made the issue safe for Maina Curtorim by coolly slotting the ball past Salil after Welson had done the spadework.
