PANJIM: Malang Raila of Margao outplayed Abhay Karande of Bandar in straight sets 16-12, 25-03 in the final to emerge champion in the 1st all Goa ranking men’s single carrom tournament organized by St Caitan de Merces in association with Goa Carrom Association, at Viraj Kerkar’s residence, Don Joao, Merces.
In the semi-finals, Malang defeated Videsh Naik 24-20, 25-08 while Abhay defeated S.K. Naik 17-08, 24-17.
The winner took home Rs 5,000 while the runner-up Rs 3,000 along with the trophies.
All together 96 players participated in the event and the trophies were awarded in memory of late Pundalik Palyekar.
Chief guest Kumarsen Kambli distributed the prizes in the presence of President of St Caitan De Merces Armstrong Braganza, President of Goa Carrom Association Francis Serrao, Santa Cruz BJP Block President Pramod Kamat and ex-sarpanch of Merces Village Panchayat Prakash Naik.
Viraj Kerkar with the team of Goa Carrom Association Dinanth Pilarnkar and Dilip Sawant contributed to make the tournament a success.
