FATORDA: Margao Mega Strikers emerged champions by defeating Venkat Biche, Ponda by 3 runs in the final of the 24 team format Sarsangan tennis ball cricket tournament, played on round robin league cum knock out basis.
Put in to bat first, MMS could only muster 28 runs in their allotted overs.
Siddesh Alvenkar top scored with 11 while Aditya Prabhugaonakr (7) and Akhil Lawande (4) remained not out.
Laxman Ghanekar, Vishal Kamat, Pranav Biche and Vardhan Kamat were the pick of the bowlers from Antruzi Fighters, Ponda, picking a wicket apiece.
In reply, Antruzi Fighters, Ponda needed 7 runs off the last over, made a mess of the small target losing by 3 runs, thanks to a hat-trick by Rasik Pai Khot of the Margao Mega Strikers.
Pranav Biche top scored with 13 while Sandeep Dalal and Aditya Angle picked a wicket each.
Rasik Pai Khot, who bowled his heart out, picking a hat-trick and gave away only 3 runs in the final over, won the man-of-the-final award.
Vijai Sardesai was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up.
Earlier in the semi-finals, Margao Mega Strikers beat Cancona Warriors by 15 runs while Antruzi Fighters, Ponda defeated Madgaon Carribeans by 12 runs.
The losing semi-finalists, Cancona Warriors and Madgaon Carribeans, both were awarded the 2nd runners up trophy.
Royal Challengers beat Super Kings team in the junior exhibition match.
