KAKODA: Margao SC defeated Parish Youth Nuvem 2-0 to lift the 21st Holy Cross Trophy, organised by Holy Cross SC in memory of Late Albert J Fernandes, at Vodlemoll-Kakoda ground, on Saturday.
Margao SC dominated the match and scored two quick goals in the second half through Melvin Furtado in the 45th minute and Necil Pinto in the 56th minute.
Parish Youth Nuvem however failed to capitalise on the very few chances they had during the match as the full-time score read 2-0 in favour of Margao SC.
The winners were awarded Rs 1,11,111 while the runners-up bagged Rs 77,777 plus trophy.
MLA of Sanvordem constituency Deepak Prabhu Pauskar was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up in the presence of MLA Curchorem constiuency Nilesh Cabral, Assistant to the parish priest, Tilamol church, Fr Arvind Fernandes, former international footballer Alvito D’Cunha, Marian Dias and other dignitaries.
President of the club Alson Fernandes welcomed while Joyston Rodrigues, James Fernandes and Alleluia Pereira introduced the players to the guests. Julius D’Costa proposed vote of thanks.
