BENAULIM: Margao SC defeated Varca SC 3-1 to move into the quarter-finals of the 21st Dando Boys Cup football tournament, played at St John the Baptist ground, Benaulim, on Wednesday .
Necil Pinto of Margao SC took control of the ball from Jesmon Soares but Tennyson Rosa of Varca tackled his move in the tenth minute.
Minutes later, Varca’s Gareth Alemao’s shot was easily saved by Margao keeper Swizel Pereira.
In the second half, Margao SC scored three goals which came from the boots of Necil Pinto in the 46th minute off Christoper Borges assist.
In the 55th minute, Margao striker was brought down by the rival defender in the Varca danger zone and the referee awarded a penalty kick to Margao. Clinton Vaz converted in style to make it 2-0.
At the hour mark, Cliff Barretto solo effort for Margao yielded the third goal who scored with a deft placement shot.
Varca SC pulled a goal back through Jhonus D’Costa in the dying minutes of the second half.
Margao SC will meet SC Davorlim in the quarter-finals on July 18.
