PANJIM: Margao Sport Club grounded Curtorim Gymkhana 2-0 in the final of 11th Rosary Cup all-Goa inter-village football tournament organized by Rosary Youth Club, Zorivaddo in memory of Anthony Rodrigues, at Rosary ground, Zorivaddo-Davorlim, Thursday.
In the first half, the teams started on an attacking note but could not score.
However, Margao broke the deadlock in the 46th minute though Stefan Noronha.
Curtorim Gymkhana tried hard to regroup and could have equalized in the 50th minute only for Agnelo Martins’ effort being blocked by Margao goalkeeper Lokesh Lamani.
Two minutes later, Margao increase the lead through Edgar Noronha.
Margao were awarded Rs 50,000 and the winner’s trophy while Curtorim Gymkhana had to settle for Rs 30,000 and the runner-up trophy.
Individual prizes were awarded to First scorer of the final to Stefan Noronha of Margao SC, Best midfielder of the final to Ashley Araujo of Margao SC, Best forward of the final to Mario Mascarenhas of Curtorim Gymkhana, Best goalkeeper of the final to Lokesh Lamani of Margao SC, Best defender of the final to Nelson Fernandes of Curtorim Gymkhana, Man-of-the-match to Stefan Noronha of Margao SC, First goal of the tournament to Paxton Gomes of Sporting Club of Davorlim and last goal of the final to Edgar Noronha of Margao SC.
Chief guest Avertano Furtado, Minister for Labour, Fisheries and NRI gave away the prizes in the presence of Fr Protasio Soares E Colaco, chaplain of Our Lady of Rosary chapel; Shubert Furtado, GFA vice-president (South), sarpanch and all the panch members of village panchayat of Davorlim Dicarpale.
President of Rosary Youth Club, Paulo Colaco proposed the vote of thanks.
