MARGAO: Goa’s Michelle Castanha is the lone Goan football player selected for Senior Women’s National Coaching camp in preparation of SAFF women’s championship 2019 and women’s Olympic qualifiers Round 2 to be held in Cuttack, Orissa from December 27 to April 10.
Whilst complimenting defender Michelle, GFA President Churchill Alemao congratulated her for participating in the trials and being the only Goan woman football player to be selected among the 30 probables. She is very talented and eager to work hard with perseverance being a quality to be admired in her. He hoped that she will rise to be in the India squad and make Goa and Goans proud.
Valanka Alemao, CEO of Churchill Bros FC, hailed Michelle for keeping Goa’s flag fluttering and hoped that she will leave no stone unturned to see that she makes the India team and earn the India colours. Valanka pointed out that she participated in the trials much before she was selected as the captain of the club’s women’s football team which finished third in the Vedanta GFA Women’s League.
“She is a very dependable defender and proved to be an asset for the team during the Goa League engagements. Michelle is presently the captain of Churchill Bros FC women’s team. She hails from Curtorim,” added Valanka.
