PANJIM: Milagres Sports Club rallied to score a hard fought 2-1 victory over Assonora United Football Club, in the Goa Football Association’s Third Division Play-off Bardez Zone Final match played at Quitula ground, on Sunday.
Dattaraj Gaonkar (26′), scored for Assonora United while Nitesh Salgaonkar (50′) and Sapnesh Gaonkar (73′) scored a goal each for the winners.
Assonora UFC played brilliantly from the start and tried to get in a the first goal while at the other end Milagres SC defended resolutely and came up with a number of attacks.
Assonora United managed to find the breakthough in the 26th minute as Dattaraj Gaonkar placed home a brilliant ball by the teammate. Down by a goal, Milages SC came with a plethora of moves in order to find the equaliser but failed to do so before the first half ended.
Post resumption, Assonora UFC fell back inorder to protect their one goal advantage while Milagres SC continued their search for the goal and were finally sucessful in the 50th minute as Nites scored brilliantly to make it all square at Quitula.
Just when it looked like the match would end 1-1 at regulation Milagres SC scored yet another goal to have a 1-goal advantage through Sapnesh in the 73rd minute.
Assonora UFC tried hard to find the equaliser but failed miserably at the goal as the final ended 2-1 in favour of Milagres SC.
