MAPUSA: Unbeaten Milagres Sports Club managed to squeeze past Pilerne Sports Club 2-1 in the GFA’s 2nd Division League, at Poriat ground, on Monday.
It was Milagres SC’s fourth straight win run that saw them dominated in the 90 minutes duel where they went into the breather with a two goals cushion, with Albino Gomes and Lesten Martins doing the scoring acts.
Milagres surged ahead in the third minute after Jolan Fernandes sent a through pass to Albino Gomes who beat the onrushing Pilerne keeper and scored to the far corner of the goal to give his side the lead.
After missing number of scoring chances, Milagres further extended their lead in the 35th minute where once again Jolan sent an intelligent through pass to Lesten Martins who scored with an adroit placement to make it 2-0.
On resumption of play, Milagres did try to further increase their tally but their strikers failed to get past the last line of Pilerne defenders and the keeper.
The Pilerne players who also missed number of scoring chances did manage to reduce the margin, but the goal came only in the 93rd minute when Craig Menezes’ free-kick was headed into the goal by Anson D’Souza.
Referee Yuvraj Tari had to flash five caution cards, three to Pilerne and two to Milagres players for rough play.
