NAVELIM: Mohun Bagan defeated India Youth Soccer Association 1-0 in the U-16 Youth League (NIKE Premier Cup), organised by AIFF, at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Wednesday.
Mohun Bagan striker Deep Saha was in thick of action from the word go.
Saha after taking control of the ball from his teammate Shanu Sardar, moved forward with the ball dribbled past rival defenders Rajan Kumar and Nishay Adhikar with ease but his shot from the box was brilliantly saved by rival keeper Paramaveer Singh.
Prakash Kumar, midfielder of Indian Youth Soccer, had a chance to give his side the lead in the 10th minute, but his 18-yard strike inches above the Mariners cross bar.
The scores were level in the first half.
Crossing ends, the Mariners came back strongly and scored the match-winner in the 76th minute through Deep Saha free-kick before Koushik Santra missed a goal header from touching distance.
Tarun Farswan, striker of India Youth Soccer, missed the best chance in the 79th minute as he shot wide from close range.
Shanu Sardar of Mohun Bagan narrowly missed a chance to score for Mohun Bagan in the 89th minute as his placement shot was saved on the goal line by Ajay Damodaran, midfielder of Indian Youth Soccer.
In another match, Ozone Group FC blanked Pride Sports Management Pvt Ltd 6-0.
Umashankar and Manvir Singh scored a brace each for Ozone FC while Ajay Alex and Ignatius John were the other goal scorers.
