CHICALIM: Mormugao United Cultural Sports Club and Mangor Sports Club played out a 1-1 draw in the GFA’s Second Division Football League match, at Chicalim ground, on Thursday. In the first half Mangor SC led 1-0.
The match began with equal ball possession but it was Mangor SC who made the breakthrough. John Fernandes of Mangor SC was outstanding on several occasions with his dangerous moves right from the start of the proceedings.
In the sixth minute, John’s long ranger flew over the crosspiece of Mormugao United after a fine pass by Preetesh Mayenkar.
Subsequently, John fed Roston Vaz in the 10th minute but his move was foiled by rival defender Sachin Borkar.
Then, Uday Naik sent in a perfect cross from the right flank to Elazano Gama, who leaped high to head only to see his effort hit the goalpost of Mangor SC in the 28th minute.
As the half hour mark approached, John found Preetesh Mayenkar inside the rival box and the latter did well to chest down the ball and slammed it into the nets of Mormugao United for the opener.
After the lemon break, Mormugao United had the first chance to score in the 52nd minute when Sachin Borkar’s cross was met by Uday Naik but his effort was blocked by Silvester Carvalho.
Finally, in the 60th minute, Mormugao United equalized through a powerful right-footer from Xavier Gama of a supply by Shalendri Cardoza.
