MAPUSA: Murod Boys clinched the Friends Circle Candolim Inter-Ward Soccer tournament, with a hard fought 3-2 win over Young Boys of Aradi, played at Dr Gustavo Monteiro ground, Candolim on Sunday.
In the second minute of the match Aradi’s Shanker Palyenkar shot went just over the post, while Nehal Naik strike at the other end hit the Aradi post.
Aradi surged ahead in the 12th minute off a self goal from Murod defender Casius Fernandes, 1-0. However just two minutes later, Murod equalised from the penalty spot which was converted by Gauresh.
Murod further increased their lead where Canute De Souza headed the ball into Aradi goal off a cross from Haresh Bhagkar, 2-1. Aradi went all out in search of the equalizer and levelled terms through Shanker Palyenkar who guided the cross into the goal from Sudhir Gawas, 2-2. Just two minutes before the hooter Canute De Souza scored the winning goal off a pass from Harish, 3-2.
Murod Boys received cash prize of Rs 12,000 and trophy, while Aardi had to be content with Rs 8,000 and a trophy.
The chief guest Rev Fr Jayson Vaz, guest of honour Yeshwant Candolkar gave away prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of president Subhash Naik, secretary Xavier Rodrigues, vice president Stephen Pereira, chairman Bruno DeSouza and other dignitaries.
