PANJIM: Despite constant postponements and incomplete infrastructure, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday stated the National Games will be held in the State.
Speaking during a ceremony at Santa Cruz, CM Sawant stated, “The National Games have been postponed due to the COVID -19 situations. But depending on the Government of India and COVID-19 situations, even if the pandemic settles down today or tomorrow, the National Games will be held in the State,” expressed the CM, who added that the Khelo India Games will also be held in the State.
Speaking during the occasion, Sports Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar backed the decision and added that the infrastructure is ready for the Games and stated, “All 36 venues in Goa are ready to hold the Games at very short notice,” he explained.
“Except for the Panjim swimming pool, all infrastructure is ready. The contractor ran away and left the work incomplete. We have appointed a new contractor now,” explained Ajgaonkar.
However, it’s not just the swimming pool but even the Squash courts at Chicalim Sports Complex are yet to be ready for the games.
