MARGAO: Navelim Sporting Club downed Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda 2-1 to cruise into the quarter-finals of All Goa Wilred Leisure Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Wilred Leisure Sports Club, at church ground, on Saturday. There was no score at lemon break.
The teams started the game on a cautious note and took time to settle down and once struck the rhythm they called the shots against each other’s rival citadel. Both had equal number of scoring chances but missed the targets.
Crossing over, Navelim were a transformed side and troubled the rival defence with orchestrated raids. Joseph Dias headed home giving no chance to the rival goalkeeper. The goal enlivened Navelim players to unleash a barrage of attacks.
Midway in the second half, Wilton Gomes doubled the lead when his well executed free kick crashed into the net.
Down by 0-2, Don Bosco Oratory went all out and managed to reduce the margin late in the second half when Hanselm Furtado nodded home.
