MARGAO: Navelim Villagers Union fought hard to overcome Verna Sports Club 3-0 via the tie-breaker and enter the quarter-finals of 3rd Cana Benaulim Panchayat Cup inter-village soccer tournament at St John Baptist ground, Dando Benaulim, here, Sunday.
In the tie-breaker, Alister Gomes, Claudio Dias and Alvito Colaco made no mistake converting their spot kicks while Verna failed in all their attempts to beat Navelim’s veteran goalkeeper Chandrakant Naik.
Former MPT and national defender Constancio Cotte Fernandes was the chief guest.
