Navelim SC clinch Martins Cup

BETALBATIM: Navelim SC edged past Sarzora SC 4-2 via the tie-breaker in the final to clinch Martins Cup 2016 football tournament organized by Betalbatim SC, at Betalbatim Sports Complex, on Sunday.

BETALBATIM: Navelim SC edged past Sarzora SC 4-2 via the tie-breaker in the final to clinch Martins Cup 2016 football tournament organized by Betalbatim SC, at Betalbatim Sports Complex, on Sunday.
Both the halves remained goalless draw. The first shot at the goal was taken by Hayden Cardozo of Sarzora SC in the 3rd minute but Navelim SC goalkeeper Cletin Gomes was equal to the task to save it.
Navelim SC Clinton Niasso’s move was tackled by Babu Naik, defender of Sarzora SC in the 11th minute.
Clinton’s two best sitters to score the goals for Navelim SC in the 23rd and 40th minutes were foiled by Goalkeeper of Sarzora SC David Rebello. Soon, Scanny Souza of Sarzora SC’s move was foiled by Anil Shivolkar of Navelim SC in the 43rd minute.
 Goalkeeper David saved two good shots of Rovan Pereira and Micky Colaco of Navelim SC in the 46th and 48th minutes.
At the end of regulation time, the teams failed to net in, settling for a 0-0 draw. 
In the resultant tie-breaker, Navelim SC were on target through Micky Colaco, Anil Shivolkar, Aulon Gomes and Mobin Gomes while Sarzora SC scored through the efforts of Hayden Cardozo and Dolwin Costa.
The winners were richer by Rs 44,444 plus trophy and runners-up had to be content with Rs 33,333 plus trophy.
Fr Fredrick Rodrigues, principal, Fr Agnel College and Central Delegate Superior-Society of Pilar was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up in the presence of Carafina Pereira, prop Martins Corner, Betalbatim; Mickky Pacheco, ex-president of Betalbatim SC; Fr Pascoal Afonso, vicar of Our Lady of Remedious Church, Betalbatim; other dignitaries and club  officials.
Earlier, President Jose Pereira welcomed. Melvin Cota, Gustavo Afonso, Joe Cota introduced the players to the guests. 
Seby Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks.
