PANJIM: Navelim SC will meet Guardian Angel, Sanvordem in the first semi-final after defeating Pax of Nagoa 2-0 in the quarter-final of CRC Chinchinim-Deussua Panchayat Cup football, at Chinchinim church ground, Thursday.
Navelim SC scored one in each session.
Navelim opened the account through the boots of Avlon Gomes in the 20th minute.
Navelim had major exchanges in the first half but failed to convert them into goals and went into the breather leading by one goal.
After the crossing over, Alvito Colaco doubled the lead for Navelim in the very 6th minute of the second half.
Wilton Gomes let go a floater into the Nagoa goal from the halfway line and Alvito made no mistake in heading the ball home.
Down 0-2, Pax of Nagoa also pressed for an equalizer but missed out on some golden opportunities. Both teams were dependent on long range shots at goal and kept trying once too often, to no avail.
Wilton of Navelim tried one long range floater that was on target but Pax of Nagoa goalkeeper ensured the ball did not go over his head by tipping it out of play over the goalpost.
Stephen Pereira of Pax of Nagoa was declared man-of-the-match and received his award from Amit Mashelkar, branch manager, HDFC Bank, Chinchinim branch.
