MARGAO: Navelim Sporting Club edged past Sporting Club Davorlim 1-0 to lift the glittering 23rd All-Goa Inter-Village Lourdes festival cup, organized by United Club of Utorda in association with Our Lady of Lourdes (Utordekars in UAE), at SAG ground, on Sunday.
The evenly contested match started on a fast mode pace with both the teams dishing out good football skills in front of the large festive crowd. Avlon Gomes scored the match-winner in the 45th minute.
MLA Mickky Pacheco was the chief guest and lauded the club for conducting all round activities and appreciated the role played by the women members of the club. He gave away the prizes in presence of guests of honour, Nakash Borker, Arjuna awardee Bramanand Sankhwalkar, ZP member Nelly Rodrigues, Fr John D’Silva, President Trindade Fernandes, sports secretaries Francis Morais and Remedius Monterio, IPP Agnelo Pereira members Jhonny Gomes, Tony LC Fernandes, Jaime Carvalho, Ana Pacheco, Rosa Maria, Emy Pereira, Savio Antao, Tony Fernandes, Rocky Noronha and Jose Paul.
Earlier, president Trindade Fernandes welcomed while Francis Morais compered. Tony LC Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks.
Navelim SC pocketed Rs 40,000 and the trophy while runners-up took home Rs 30,000.
Individual prizes were awarded to Best disciplined team: Uguem Rising Stars. First scorer of the final: Avlon Gomes (Navelim SC). Best goalkeeper: Cleton Gomes (Navelim Sporting). Man-of-the-Match: Selwan Miranda (SC Davorlim). Highest scorer of the tournament: Savio Fernandes (Pax of Nagoa).
