MARGAO: Navelim Villagers Union prevailed over Wilred Leisure Sports Club 5-3 via the tie-breaker to storm into the final of all-Goa Davorlim Cup inter-village football tournament, organized by Sporting Club of Davorlim at Panchayat ground, Davorlim, on Monday. The teams were locked goalless at the end of the regulation period.
The teams displayed attacking brand of soccer and kept the crowds on their toes. Post resumption, both the teams showed urgency and fired couple of pots shots against the rival goal but their defenders thwarted with neat tackles.
With time running out, the teams went all out but failed to resolved the deadlock.
In the penalty shoot-out, Joseph Dias, Jaison Pereira, Bitu Singh, Clive Mascarenhas and Sidney Coutinho found the mark for Navelim Villagers Union while Nelson Fernandes, Savio Fernandes, and Joaquim Carvalho were on target for Wilred Leisure.
On Sunday, Verna Sports Club shunted out St Anthony’s Sports Club, Assolda 5-4 via the tie-breaker. The teams were locked goalless draw at the end of normal period .Verna Sports Club had last laugh in the tie-breaker. Navelim Villagers Union will now meet Verna Sports Club in the final slated on April 12.
