PANJIM: Navelim Villagers Union got the better of a spirited St Anthony Sports Club, Colva 2-1 to enter the quarter-final of 1st all-Goa late Ciabro Alemao memorial inter-village football tournament, organized by Varca Sports Club, Varca, on Tuesday.
Navelim Villagers Union led the first session 1-0.
Navelim Villagers Union had a positive start and were awarded a penalty in the third minute and Clinton Niasso scored from the spot-kick.
St Anthony also had their chances but their forwards wasted some good opportunities.
St Anthony had a good start in the second half. A well taken shot heading towards the Navelim goal was parried away by their alert goalkeeper. However, Navelim made it 2-0 through Sandy Colaco. St Anthony pulled a goal back as Joseph Pereira unleashed a screamer from the edge of the box on the left.
