SIRLIM: Two goals in four minutes towards the fag end of the match enabled Navelim Villagers Union repeat last year’s feat in the Our Lady of Merces 8-a-side football.
In the finals played at Chinchinim church ground, on Tuesday, Navelim Villagers edge past Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda 2-0. There was no score at half time.
Clinton Colasso and Preston Costa scored for Navelim Villagers Union in the 57th and 59th minutes respectively.
In the first half, it was a case of missed chances for both the teams, with players holding their heads when the ball bounced back on many occasions from the goalline.
Preston Costa of Navelim bagged the man-of-the final and was given a prize for the final goal of the tournament. Jeet Gupta was named the goalkeeper of the finals and declared the keeper of the tournament.
The winners took home Rs 50,000 while the runners-up received Rs 40,000.
Alvito D’Cunha, former India player and brand ambassador of East Bengal, was the chief guest.
Fr Alex D’Souza, Parish Priest of Chinchinim and Cuncolim Police Inspector Tukaram Chavan were the guests of honour.
