PANJIM: United club of Nerul edged out hosts Goa Velha SC 6-5 via the sudden death tie-breaker to take the last semi-final slot of the 8th London Trophy organised by Goa Velha SC at Goa Velha ground, on Thursday.
Hosts Goa Velha had a first chance as Revelino laid a beautiful pass through the middle of the Nerul defence and Naik who had only keeper Sidesh Morje to beat, shot over from close range. A few minutes later, Joseph’s 40 yard free kick that was curling towards the Nerul left post was fisted the for an abortive corner by Sidesh.
At the other end Joelif Simoes whilst charging into the Goa Velha box was brought down by Alaric on top of the box. The resultant freekick taken by Joelif himself, narrowly missed the Goa Velha upright. There was no score at half time.
Immediately after resumption Manuel Crasto’s freekick screamed past the Goa Velha left post. Sohan Shinde then had a powerful shot from deep into the Goa Velha half sailing over the Nerul goal. At the other end Canute took two Goa Velha defenders in his stride but his shot at goal was easily collected by keeper Anderson.
In the ensuing tie-breaker Manuel, Bapu, Stanley, Joelif, Anthony and Russel scored for United club of Nerul, while for Goa Velha, Melroy, Sohan, Joseph, Naik and Ashel were on target.
