Nerul Sports Club scored a narrow 9-8 win over Siolim Sodiem Sports and Cultural Association via the tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of Aldona Panchayat Cup soccer tournament, organised by Quitula Sports Club at Quitula football ground, on Thursday. The teams were locked 1-1 at the end of regulation time.
Prasad Dhabholkar opened the score for Nerul in the 10th minute off a deflection.
Changing over, Prestonio of Siolim could have easily equalised, but his power packed shot off a free kick was parried away by Nerul custodian Xavier Estrocio in the 50th minute.
However, Basil Fernandes equalised for Siolim in the 65th minute off a cross from Prestonio.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Deepraj, Janifer, Siddhart, Abhijeet, Radhakrishna, Xavier, Sarvesh and Leeroy were on target for Nerul, while Prashant, Rakesh, Sushant, Raghu, Jefferson, Prestonio, Mahendra converted for Siolim.
