Nerul Sports Club defeated St Rock’s Youth Club, Majorda 2-0 to advance into the quarter-final of All Goa 2nd Cuncolim Union Trophy inter village football tournament, organised by Cuncolim Union, at school playground, Cuncolim on Wednesday.
Nerul were leading 1-0 at the breather.
Dynasheshwar put Nerul Sports Club into the lead midway in the opening session when he bugled into the net after picking up a pass from Felix Baretto.
Spurred by the early success, Nerul nearly made it 2-0 but Clyde Dias muffed pen header.
At the other end, St Rock had their scoring chances but their forwards frittered away an easy sitters.
Crossing over, Nerul put up an improved display as their opponents did not showed
urgency and Nerul strikers repeatedly raided the rival citadel with sharp raids and were rewarded midway in the second half when Abhijit Govekar made full use of rival defender lapse to punish the rival goalkeeper with an adroit placements .
