VASCO: New Vaddem and Mangor wards claimed most of the titles in the week-long Futsal tournament organised by St Andrew’s Church, Vasco as part of the 450 years celebration of the church.
In all there were four finals in different age groups.
In the ladies finals, New Vaddem beat Vaddem ward 3-1. Valanka scored two goals while Etilvina netted a goal for New Vaddem. Fatima scored the only goal for Vaddem.
In the U-18 boys final, New Vaddem edged past Vaddem Boys 3-2. Shane netted a brace while Valentino scored another for the winners. Johnson and Sylvester reduced the margin for Vaddem boys.
The Boys (General) match went down the wire as the New Vaddem Boys scrambled a 2-1 lead in last few seconds when they conceded a penalty as Mangor equalised. The match went into the shoot-out and Mangor won 6-5 on aggregate.
In the above 40 men category, Mangor got the better of New Vaddem 3-1.. Romano scored a hat-trick for Mangor while Lugenio was the lone scorer for New Vaddem.
Earlier an exhibition match was played between the Diocesan priests and the Stars of Vasco. The priests were too good for the Vasco men who they beat 6-2.
In the U-14 boys final, Mangor pipped Tilak Maidan 2-1. Ruben Colaco and Shawn Parado scored a goal each for the winners while Peter Rodrigues reduced the margin for Tilak Maidan.
In the U-10 boys final, New Vaddem thumped Airport Road 5-0. All the five goals were scored by Lionel Soares. Vaddem girls claimed the U-14/18 merged group.
Maymol Rocky, head coach of India National women’s football team and Shameek Vaz, the U-16 International player were the guests for the prize distribution.
