MAPUSA: Vasco Sports Club registered a hard-fought 1-0 win over Chapora Yuvak Sangh in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, here, on Sunday.
The all-important goal for the winners came in the 50th minute of play from the boots of Ngulgoulal Singsit.
Both the teams having won their last league match saw Chapora YS coach Levino Pereira bring in three changes, while Vasco SC coach Bisheshwor Lairenjam brought just one in their starting XI.
In the very fourth minute, Vasco SC would have opened their account but Chapora YS’ medio U-21 Brandon Pereira brought a timely clearance before Vasco SC’s Ngulgoulal Singsit could toe the ball into the goal.
It was Chapora YS, who time and again attacked the rival citadel, but failed to score. Pinpoint crosses from the wingers were blocked by Vasco SC custodian Roni Das and minutes later by Vasco SC’s defenders Hijam Singh and Thokchom Singh came to their teams rescue with brilliant blocks.
On crossing ends, Chapora YS’ coach brought two fresh legs Sachidanand Satelkar and Leslee Britto, while Vasco SC coach brought Vellington Almeida and Mujafarhusain.
In the very 5th minute, substitute Vellington found his striker Ngulgoulal Singsit unmarked inside the 18-yard box who controlled and finished with a rasping left footer,1-0.
In the closing stages of the match, Chapora YS had two close attempts at the rival goal to level terms but Akash Sanadi teasing free-kick inside the 6-yard box saw Rio Fernandes, a fraction late to nod the ball into the goal. Then in the added time, Cyprian Rodrigues cross from the right flank saw Vinayak Rane’s header sail just over the crossbar.
