PANJIM: Niraj Saripalli clinched the top spot with 8.5 points in the 3rd all-Goa open rapid chess tournament organized by Jetty Cricket Club under the aegis of Goa Chess Association and Mormugao Taluka Chess Association at Deepvihar Secondary School Gymnasium, Headland Sada, Vasco.
Rohan Ahuja bagged the runner-up position. In all, 92 players participated.
Results open category (first to 10th): Niraj Saripalli (8.5), Rohan Ahuja (7.5), Ritviz Parab (7.5), Cruz Wilson (7), Shane Braganza (6.5), Nandini Saripalli (6.5), Hadkonkar Gauri (6.5), Deeptesh Karmalkar (6.5), Brendon Peroz (6.5) and PM Kantak (6).
Results (age-group category): U-7: Shivank Kuncolienkar (6), Gunjal Chopdekar (5). U-9: Krystal Fernandes (6), Swera Braganza (5.5). U-11: Tushar K (6), Anirudh Parsekar (5.5). U-13: Vageesh Tendulkar (5.5), Bandekar Urvi (5). U-15: Sayani Kerkar (6), Sharmad Bodke (6).
Power Minister Milind Naik was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of guest of honour Ashesh Keni, president Goa Chess Association, Kishor Bandekar, president Mormugao Taluka Chess Associaton, Gajanan Mahale, president of Jetty Cricket Club and Sunil Prabhu, secretary. Yeshwant Kubal compered.
