In the Open category there were 47 players while 22 players took part in the girl’s category.
In the seventh and final round of the Open category, Nitish got the better of Shane Braganca to score six points out of seven games. He was awarded Rs 4000 and the Ratna M Bhat memorial rolling trophy.
Shane finished on 4.5 points. M Bharat defeated Leon Mendonca to clinch the runners-up title with six points.
Gaurav Madkaikar won the third place with five points while Tatvesh Sawant and Sanjay Thorat won the fourth and fifth places respectively to qualify for the Sub-Junior National Championship which will be in September in Jammu and Kashmir.
In the girl’s category, last year’s winner Ridhi defended her title by winning the fifth and final round match against Aditee Prabhugaonkar to clinch the title with 4.5 points. She was awarded Rs 4,000 and the late Godavari P Keni memorial rolling trophy.
Sakshi Naik Gaonkar with 4.5 points secured the second place by defeating Tanvi Hadkonkar in the final round.
WCM Gunjal Chopdekar won the third place with four points while Aditee Prabhugaonkar won the fourth place in the tournament and qualified to participate in the National Sub-Junior Championship 2015.
Secretary of GCA Kishor Bandekar was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of GCA vice-president Ashesh Keni, Sagar Sakordekar, CTCA president Dr Aman Prabhugaonkar, Treasurer of GCA and CTCA Ramdas Sawant, secretary of STCA Damodar Zambawalikar, MTCA secretary Vasant Naik, chief arbiter Swapnil Hoble, arbiter Gautam Tari and other dignitaries.
