MAPUSA: North Goa Veterans registered a thumping 4-1 win over South Goa Veterans in the Claudio Pacheco 60th birthday exhibition football match, at the Duler Stadium.
The encounter, featuring several of Goa’s former national and international players aged mostly above 60, delighted spectators with crisp one-touch football throughout the match.
Allwyn Fernandes struck a brace for North Goa Veterans, while Ravi Malogi and Seby Fernandes also found the net. Uday Naik scored the lone consolation goal for South Goa Veterans.
Birthday celebrant Claudio Pacheco enthralled the crowd with his trademark dribbling skills but was unlucky on three occasions in front of goal.
Chief guest Padma Shri awardee Brahmanand Sankwalkar, in the presence of other dignitaries, presented the winners’ and runners-up trophies. Allwyn Fernandes of North Goa Veterans was named man-of-the-match.
Claudio Pacheco proposed the vote of thanks, while Anthony Fernandes compered the function.
