MARGAO: Nuvem Sports Club prevailed over St Sebastian Union 6-4 via the tie-breaker to sail into the quarter-finals of Salcete Zone GFA’s 3rd Division League play-offs match, at Cansulaim Sports Complex, Tuesday.
There was no score at half time.
Nuvem held edge over their opponents in the opening session and their midfielders and forwards worked in tandem to put the rival citadel under tremendous pressure but could not score due to inept shooting by their forwards.
At the other hand, St Sebastian did not lag behind as they attacked the rival goal but without success.
Post resumption, Nuvem put up a vast display and fired couple of forays against the rival citadel. Persistent forays paid off the dividends when Nifon Coutinho beat the rival goalkeeper with deft placement.
With time running out, St Sebastian went all out and their efforts bore the fruit when Joseph Fernandes restored parity in the injury time. At the end of regulation time the score was 1-1 draw.
In the penalty shoot out, Vincent Quadros, Bensen Fernandes, Myfon Coutinho, Stanley D’Mello and Royan D’Souza were on target for Nuvem Sports Club while Joseph Fernandes, Lyndon and Herculano Costa and Lyndon Fernandes scored for St Sebastian Union.
