CALANGUTE: Nuvem Veterans scored a comfortable 2-0 victory over Siolim Veterans in the inaugural match of Dr Gustavo Monteiro memorial veterans football tournament organized by Candolim Veterans at Dr Gustavo Monteiro Stadium, Candolim, Monday. Nuvem led 1-0 at half time.
Both teams began on a promising note and came close to scoring on a couple of occasions. Nuvem forged ahead in the 20th minute through Constancio Rodrigues.
Changing over, Nuvem kept attacking the Siolim citadel and doubled the lead through the boots of Xavier Colaco.
Trailing by two goals, Siolim tried to hard to bounce back into the game but failed to get past the rival defenders.
Earlier, the tournament was kicked off by former players Eugenio Cardozo (Dempo) and Salvador Lobo (Salgaocar) in the presence of Fr Victor Rodrigues, assistant parish priest of Candolim and other officials.
