PARODA: Our Lady of Rosary High School, Fatorda beat title contenders Holy Spirit Institute, Margao 5-4 via the tie-breaker to emerge champions of the Ramnath D. Volvotkar memorial U-17 inter school football tournament organised by Insight Society in association with DSYA, Damodar High School and Damodar Higher Secondary School, at Gudi – Paroda, on Saturday.
Rosary School missed easy scoring chances in the first session through Maxwell Furtado.
Holy Spirit strikers Tahir Shaikh and Richard Fernandes had no chance to score with the tight defence of Holy Rosary HS led by Joswel Cardozo, who was later adjudged as the best defender of the tournament.
As both the teams failed to score in the normal time, the tie–breaker method was applied.
Maxwell Furtado, Syden Furtado, Jordon Borges, Valjoe Pinto and Movin Gauncar scored for winners while Tahir Shaikh, Madan Pomburphekar, Mevan Dias and Saideep Pomburphekar were on target for Holy Spirit Institute.
The winners were awarded Rs 10,000 and a glittering trophy while the runners-up had to be content Rs 7,000 and a trophy. Minister for Town & Country Planning Vijai Sardesai was the chief guest and handed over the prizes in the presence of businessman Sudesh Bhise, Dr Uday C Gaunkar, Principal of Damodar HSS and Jovita D’costa – Vice Principal.
