PANJIM: Old Goa Educational Institute, Old Goa edged past Popular High School, Goa Velha 2-1 in the All-Goa Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs Under-17 Football tournament match, at Dr Remigio Pinto ground, Taleigao, on Tuesday.
Old Goa Educational Institute opened the account in the very fifth minute when a free-kick taken by Xavier Ekka was handled by Popular High School defender Yogesh Verenekar and off the resultant penalty, Kushal Kankonkar converted for Old Goa.
Then, the Goa Velha School went all out for the equalizer and succeeded when Yogesh Vernekar scored off a free-kick just outside the penalty area to make it 1-1 at half time.
With just five minutes to go for the final whistle, Xavier Ekka scored the match-winner when he was well fed by Kushal Kankonkar to make it 2-1.
Earlier, the Old Goa School had defeated Hedgewar High School, Bambolim.
