PANJIM: Om Shiv Shambhu won the 30th All Goa Crown Volleyball tournament, defeating Goa Police 3-2 in the final, at Merces ground, on Thursday,
Sidesh, Sarvesh and Rudresh with their powerful smashing combined well as a team, took Goa Police to a comfortable first set win at 25-18.
In the second set Goa Police again took a comfortable lead and won rather easily at 25-15, with no much effort, as the Man-of-the-Match ‘Pappu’ was guarded with the triple blocking tactics by the security men.
Om Shiv Shambhu were a totally different side in the 3rd set, Papu, Siresh, Ashish and the team, changed tactics by playing the short lift and increased the tempo of the game, by taking a quick lead of 11-2 and comfortably won on 25-12.
Om Shiv demolished Goa Police 25- 21 in the fourth set before taking the fifth set 15-8.
Viraj Sawant of Crown Club won the individual prize of Darling-of-the-Crowd award.
Pappu took the best smasher of the match and best lifter award was bagged by Sameer of Goa Police.
MLA Tony Fernandes was the chief guest for the final and gave the prizes to the winners and runners-up in presence of Sarpanch Mariano Araujo, Fr Alxandro, Santosh Bandekar, Digambar Shet, Hugo Gonsalves.
