Omkar’s late strike seals Vagator’s win

Scores 89th minute match-winner to help Vagator PYSC beat ICSC Paroda 2-1

MAPUSA: Omkar Satrlkar’s 89th minute goal helped Vagator Parish Youth to score a 2-1 win over ICSC Paroda in the GFA’s First Division League match, played at Duler grounds here on Sunday.
The match hardly saw any long dry spells- with both sides initiating a series of raids, keeping their rival keepers on high alert.
A few seconds into the match Paroda’s Manesh Oliviera unleashed a powerful shot which was cleanly collected by Vagator keeper Sherwin da Cunha.
Three minutes later keeper Sherwin once again came to his teams rescue – diving full length to deny Hyginus Fernandes from scoring.
At the other end Anson D’Souza saw his curling goal bound shot deflect off the defender and roll out of play.
A minute later Paroda custodian Presley Mascarenhas effected a diving save to block U-20 Paresh Vaigankar’s low shot.
Vagator kept up the pressure- where in the 13th minute Vijay Morajkar set the ball on platter to Anson D’Souza whose placing strike was pushed away for a corner by the keeper.
Couple of minutes into the match, Sylvester Dias beat the Paroda custodian with a sharp cross, however Anson D’Souza’s placement was timely blocked by the defender.
The much anticipated goal finally happened in the 27th minute of play when Sylvester Dias ran up the right flank and sent a defence splitting cross to U-20 Pavan Dhargalkar who coolly tapped the ball home, 1-0.
Down by a goal, Paroda tried hard to restore parity- where in the 30th minute Cyril Dias sent a through pass to Mario Fernandes whose shot brushed the legs of the defender and went out for a corner.
A minute later Mariano Rebello sent the ball to Merriston Coutinho whose shot from the top of the box was kept away by the diving Vagator keeper.
Sylvester Dias was twice unlucky in front of the Paroda goal, where first his right footer missed the target narrowly and then his strike from inside the 18-yard box was collected by keeper.
Crossing over, both sides took off from where they had left, where in the 52nd minute Anson D’Souza charged into the rival camp and drilled a rasping shot which was swayed away by the diving keeper Presley.
In the next minute Paroda finally managed to level terms when Merriston Coutinho set up Hyginus Fernandes who scored through an adroit placement, 1-1.
Two minutes later Paroda almost took the lead, however Vagator keeper managed to block Hyginus in a one-to-one situation.
After some midfield action Paroda once again came attacking, where in the 68th minute Manesh Oliviera sent a long floater to unmarked Hyginus Dias, however the latter’s floater sailed over.
A minute later Manesh into the Vagator danger zone and sent in a cross which found Hyginus, however the latter’s placement was brilliantly cleared on the goal line by defender Navin Shirodkar.
With just a minute to go for the full time whistle, Vagator once again turned the match in their favour when Sylvester Dias backheeled the ball to Omkar Satrlkar who took his time before placing the ball to the left of the keeper, 2-1.
