PANJIM: Sporting Clube de Goa Coach Oscar Bruzon was all smiles on Sunday as he marked the 1st anniversary of making his debut as a Professional Coach in the I-League with Sporting Clube de Goa, exactly a year ago.

The thirty-six year old’s first game in charge was against ONGC on 8th December 2012, where the match ended in a respectable 2-2 draw, after the Flaming Oranje came back from  two goals down at half time to earn a valuable point.

In the last 365 days, Sporting Goa has played a grand total of 50 games in all competitions. The club has won 28 matches, drawn 14 and lost only 8 times, which say’s a lot for the influence Oscar has had on the club.

In the Goa league tournaments, Sporting Goa has won 15 matches, drawn 4 and lost just 2 games, which made them victorious in the Goa Super Cup final in May and Goa Pro League recently.

Since Oscar took over, the club has played 29 I-League encounters, where they have won 13, drawn 10 and lost only 6. Last season they finished sixth in the league and this year in what will be his first full season in charge they are currently in 2nd place in the standings.

In the last twelve months, the club has seen two strikers namely Dawson Fernandes and Victorino Fernandes make their debuts for the Indian national team. The talented pair has both grown in confidence under the Spaniard.

Oscar has also become a huge hit with the Flaming Oranje fans, which he happily meets and greets after practice sessions and matches.

Oscar’s parents are currently in Goa on holiday which made the anniversary occasion extra special, although the ambitious Coach did not relax too much as he has plenty  left to achieve this season.
