PANJIM: Panchawadi Sports Club carved a solitary goal victory against Uguem Rising Club to storm into the quarter-finals of Fr. Agnelo Youth inter-village football tournament, organized by Fr. Agnelo Youth Sports Club, Paroda, at panchayat ground, Avedem, Paroda, Sunday.
Panchawadi Sports Club started in whirlwind fashion and went into the lead in the 23th minute when Cleston Fernandes flicked the ball into the nylons off a pass from Glen Colaco.
Uguem Rising Club regrouped and played an attacking football thereafter but luck eluded them a victory. They had created a couple of scoring opportunities but their attackers Rickson Pereira and Eleston Gomes missed the sitters.
Javed D’Costa of Panchawadi Sports Club and Jason Barreto of Uguem Rising Club played well for their teams.
Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by Savio Afonso, the ex-professional football player from the village. Organising committee chairman Francisco D’Costa welcomed and vice chairman Xavier Alphonso proposed a vote of thanks.
