Panjim Footballers go down fighting in opener

AGENGIES, LUDHIANA: Panjim Footballers went down fighting to Hans Women’s FC in an exciting offensive battle in the Indian Women’s League match, at the GHG Khalsa University Ground in Ludhiana, Punjab, on Tuesday.
The game started on a slow note with Hans looking not to repeat the same mistakes they made against Alakhpura on Sunday. It was just after the half hour mark that the first goal came as Anushka Samuel found the net and put Hans ahead with free-kick which was misguided by CIA Almeida giving Anuska free- time to tap the ball.
Just before half-time, however, Panjim struck back as Jeromina Colaco got the better of a defender and managed to find Karishma Shirovoikar in the box, who found the net to make it all square.
The Panjim side had better understanding in the second half. Both teams came out all guns blazing.
Not long after the hour mark, Panjim Footballers goal keeper Ashika Gadekar could not collect a long shot as Anushka Samuel scored again.
But with 15 minutes to spare, Hans made a grave mistake giving away a penalty when their defender brought down Karishma Sirvoikar in the penalty area, who then converted to make it 2-2.
Just as the match was towards a 2-2 draw, at the 80th minute mark, Hans captain Jyoti Burnett resolved the contest, scoring to secure a 3-2 win for Hans.
Panjim went all out with Linda Calado and Ansiva Vaz as they pushed hard to get equaliser feeding Karishma Sirvoikar who was well marked by the opposition defenders giving her no room to move.
Coach Naresh Vinordkar brought in Macrenna Dias and Khushboo to boost midfield but failed to have an impact.
Karen Costa was caution by referee for tripping the opponent.
