BENAULIM: Parish Youth Nuvem recorded a solitary goal victory over Curtorim Gymkhana to lift the glittering 33rd Strikers Trophy football tournament organised by Young Strikers Benaulim, at St John Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Sunday.
Both the teams played fast attacking football with action at both the ends. Nuvem missed a sitter through Stephen Colaco while Myson fernandes was the culprit of wasting a chance for Curtorim.
Nuvem made the first breakthrough in the 50th minute when Albino Pereira pounced on an error made by the Curtorim goalkeeper Johnson Bhagat who charged out of the area to cut out Ceder Colaco’s pass but the fleet footed Nuvem striker Albino dashed in and put the ball in the empty nylons which ultimately proved to be the match-winner. Curtorim got an opportunity to score the equaliser in the last minute of the match however Mackwill Fernandes blasted the ball over the cross piece.
Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco made a surprise appearance and set on the bench of Curtorim Gymkhana and watched the final.
PY Nuvem were awarded Rs 40,000 and a trophy while Curtorim Gymkhana received Rs 30,000 and a trophy.
Sharon Alemao was the chief guest and gave away the trophy in the presence of Benaulim Sarpanch Diella Pereira, Colva Sarpanch Anthony Mam Fernandes, Benaulim Dy. Sarpanch Menino De Bandar, Xavier Pereira, Arnald Da Costa, Fr Luis Pinto, Reginaldo Ramola, Babush Coelho, Protty Fernandes and Andrew Ferrao.
