Pax of Nagoa triumph

MARGAO: Pax of Nagoa Sports Club rallied from behind to defeat United Club of Benaulim 3-1 to enter the quarter-final of all-Goa Assumpta Trophy inter-village football tournament, organized by Sarzora Sports Club, at SAG ground, Sarzora, on Saturday. Pax of Nagoa led 2-1 at half time.

United Club of Benaulim surprised their rivals when Ossy Fernandes bulged the net off a cross from Sunny Fernandes in the 15th minute.
Stung by the setback, Pax of Nagoa regrouped quickly and took the fight to the rival camp and neutralized the lead in the 18th minute when Savio Fernandes converted the spot-kick after rival defender Mackwin Gracias handled the ball inside the penalty area.
The equalizer boosted the morale of Nagoa players as they intensified their attacks and Santan Rego made it 2-1 in favour of Nagoa.
Crossing over, Pax of Nagoa continued to enjoy the better share of exchanges and unleashed barrage of attacks. Eusebio Fernandes fired the last nail into rival coffin late in the second half.
Santan Fernandes, sarpanch of Sarzora, was the chief guest and inaugurated the tournament.
