MAPUSA: Pilerne Sports Club managed to edge past host Vagator PYSC by 2-1 margin to advance into the quarters of the 21st Vagator Soccer Cup 2019, organised by Vagator PYSC, at Ozran ground, on Sunday.
In an absorbing encounter it was missed chances for the teams.
In the eighth minute, Pilerne should have taken the lead when Vagator defender Renni Dias mistimed his shot which was snatched by Pilerne’s Anson D’Souza but his shot brushed the post and went out of play.
However in the 15th minute , Anson D’Souza put Pilerne ahead as he collected a pass from his brother Alrich D’Souza and scored with a neat placement.
It did not take long for their opponents to level terms when Vagator’s Pratik Dhargalkar scored with his individual brilliancy.
Vagator almost took the lead but Sameer Govekar’s rasping shot was saved by the Pilerne keeper Kurpesh Bandodkar.
In the 30th minute, Pilerne once again scored through Anson D’Souza from a blistering right footer to make it 2-1.
