MAPUSA: FC Siolim advanced with a decisive 5-2 victory over Candolim SC into the Saligao Super Soccer 2025 tournament organised by Saligao United, at the Vagator ground on Thursday.
Star striker Pushparaj Mandrekar was the difference-maker, netting a hat-trick and contributing to a dominant display. FC Siolim got off to a quick start, with Mandrekar heading in the opener just two minutes in from a cross by Mathan. Candolim SC responded swiftly, equalising in the 5th minute through a Reagan Pereira strike from outside the box.
The teams traded chances but FC Siolim regained the lead right before halftime when Sadanand Dhabolkar setting up Pushparaj Mandrekar to make it 2-1.
FC Siolim took full control after the break. Mandrekar completed his hat-trick in the 38th minute, expertly dribbling past the goalkeeper and then scoring his fourth goal just four minutes later to put the score at 4-1. Dalesh Pednekar added a fifth for FC Siolim in the 47th minute.
Candolim SC managed a late consolation goal in the 59th minute from substitute Ransley Gonsalves, but the match was already settled.
