MAPUSA: Parish Youth Nuvem got the better of Saligao Sporting Club 5-4 via the tie-breaker in Calangute Panchayat Cup football tournament organized Calangute Association at Poriat ground, Calangute, Friday. The teams were locked 1-1 at full time.
After a barren first half, Saligao started with a renewed sense of purpose with good short passes and broke the deadlock 10 minutes later after Josley Menezes sent in a defence splitting pass to Verissimo Miranda, who shot past rival custodian Joel Colaco with a deft placement.
Spurred by the success, Verissimo could have scored another but his close ranger was fisted away by goalkeeper Joel.
At the other end, Nuvem took time to regroup but equalized with 10 minutes to go for the final whistle as Savio Colaco bulged the rival nylons off a pass from Jerose Oliveira.
In the penalty shoot-out, Nuvem kept their cool as Sebytonio Colaco, Stanley Colaco, Jerose Oliveira and Savio Colaco scored while Jason D’Mello, Videsh Satardekar and Niyazi Sheikh converted for Saligao.
