PY Velsao champions alvares beach soccer

Parish Youth, Velsao edged past Fukotto-I to emerge champions in the finals of All-Goa James Alvares memorial beach soccer organised by United Youth Club at Bogmalo beach, recently. Velsao led 1-0 at half time.
Promising striker Richard scored through a solo effort in the very 4th minute while in the second half Gemy doubled the lead for Velsao. In all 32 teams participated.
Velsao received Rs 15,000 while Fukotto had to be content with Rs 10,000. Third place winners Baina Boys received Rs 4,000 while fourth place United Boys of Sancoale pocketed Rs 3,000.
Following prizes were awarded: Man-of-the match – Gemy; Player of the tournament – Vincy; Best goalkeeper – Arun Naik; Best disciplined team – Baina Boys.
Mauvin Godinho MLA, was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Bogmalo VP sarpanch, Urbano Rodrigues, deputy sarpanch Arun Naik, panch Laxman Kavlekar, Bogmalo church parish priest Fr. Antonio Fernandes, Cosme Alvares, Filomena Alvares, Reka Alvares, Etelvino D’Cruz.
